While horses are commonly found sleeping while standing,it is a measure to keep them partially awake and ready in case of danger. Horses do infact sleep lying down when injured or extremely tired.
@Zyroy, or before a big storm. Cows do the same!
@Zyroy, you must be really horse after reading that sentence.
@Zyroy, yeah, ppl don't understand this and often get concerned that our horses are dead.. It can be a bit annoying honestly
@Sans, you're really playing the character huh?
@Zyroy, or if they feel Safe. Hard if you have to get One to stand up.
Fun fact: horses are measured in a measurment called "hands".
@unknownjanitor, how large is a hand? In both metric and standard
@FunnyPics HOONIGAN, look at your hand, that is a measurement of hand, my friend.
@Ottiemobile, but. But. But. Hands are different sizes
@FunnyPics HOONIGAN, indeed, which is why we should look at the hands of professionals
@FunnyPics HOONIGAN, standard hand is 4 inches, idk about metric never used it to measure, typically goes 1; 1.1; 1.2; 1.3; 2; 2.1 ; 2.2 ; 2.3 and so on. Measurement is taken from the bottom of one of the front hooves to the top of the shoulder. Source: having horses all my life 🙂
@Kingair983, I believe you lol
@FunnyPics HOONIGAN, 4 inches. 101.6 mm. I used to ride horses and I'm an engineer. Trust me :-D
@relevantusername007, Average horse is around 15-16 hands measured at the shoulder
@relevantusername007, ah okay
@relevantusername007, a horse measuring less than 14.2 hands is considered a pony
@unknownjanitor, are you trying to make people Google "horses and hands"? Cuz they're gonna have a baaad time
@FunnyPics HOONIGAN, the hand is measured
side to side accross the palm (outside thumb to outside pinky)
Not top to bottom (wrist to top of finger)
Hands are much more standard/similar side to side
I have a horse... I've seen horses... And not once did I ever think the noise they makes sounds like "neigh"
@ComedyPro, just like dogs never say "bow-wow" nor does an owl say "hoot"
@relevantusername007, exactly. The owl does sort of sound like it though. Not really, but sort of.
Or it's a picture of a dead horse
@teMMIE, "she must be tired she's been like that since Monday"
I'm pretty sure you should get that checked...
I want someone to raise my horse in the bedroom, If you know what I mean ;)
@Wowanator, no I don't
Pretty sure thats a cat
I'm no horse expert but is that how they sleep?
@Facey McFaceless, neigh!!
@Facey McFaceless, Most horses sleep standing up. The only time a hirse lays down is if its sick, like, really sick. Even with a broken leg they stand up with the help of a harness.
@apel sos, idk what horses you've been around but I've had multiple horses sleep like this a lot, even took a picture of 7 of them sleeping like this together while the boss mare of the pasture stood guard.
@apel sos, this is not true. Horses routinely lie down for naps both like this picture, with their legs tucked underneath them, and also flat out on their sides with legs outstretched. They can also sleep standing up, which they do a lot of, but definitely can lie down without being sick. Lying down for long periods of time, can cause problems because of the amount of weight behind the animal, but many horses will nap lying down for 15-30 minutes several times a day. You'd be amazed how many people wake up their horses/try to get them back up, simply because they don't know that they can sleep this way. I've worked with a number of horses for over 5 years now so I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about 👍🏼
@Shelbie, Sorry. Thought i knew stuff about horses
@apel sos, I'm sure you do. And now you know more!
@Shelbie, thank you for that explanation, I'm now slightly wiser about horses.
That means your horse is sick. Check it for horse AIDS or something.
Do you sleep like that?
That's the only horse I've ever seen sleep
