Mystakes were made
This game was so damn hard when you're 10. Now idk but back then I wanted to murder someone.
@Rowule, I did.
@Rowule, its challenging when youre 16 but its doable
@Rowule, the only winning move is not the play
@Rowule, When i was about nine or so it frustrated me so much, I haven't touched it since.
@Rowule, I sold mine to game stop for 10¢. Worth every penny back.
This game was made by bungie before it was owned by Microsoft. The game had a serious bug that could, and did, wipe the users entire hard drive on extremely rare occasions. This bug cause a class action lawsuit amounting $20 million against bungie, which it did not have. At the time bungie was trying to sell the idea of Halo to Apple which Apple was not interested in buying. Then Microsoft came along and offered to pay for the lawsuit in return for the rights to Halo and a contractual obligation to make 4 halo games. Through a series of back and forth problems between Microsoft and Bungie, Microsoft was taking a larger portion of the sales and revenue from the halo sales and pre orders, all the while Microsoft was expecting individual halos 1, 2, 3, and 4. But instead of making Halo 4, Bungie made Halo reach, which pisssed off Microsoft. Bungie then sold halo to 343 industries and has signed a contract with activision for Destiny. And the vicious cycle begins again :D
@VibratingButtChomper, did that happen before or after the 2nd and 3rd Myst games were made?
@VibratingButtChomper, so what happened to cyan Studios
@VibratingButtChomper, is this true? Cause if so you just blew my goddamn mind
@VibratingButtChomper, That's... not anywhere near true. Bungie did not make the Myst games, at the time they were making a game series called Myth. Their game Marathon 2: Durandal had the bug you speak of, but it didn't culminate in a huge lawsuit. Marty O'Donnell, who later became a Bungie employee, was an independent contractor at the time, and did the music for Myst 2: Riven (not Myst 1, the cover being spoofed in the picture). Bungie unveiled Halo at a Macworld convention (introduced by Steve Jobs, no less) and Microsoft then offered to buy them (and the rights to the Halo IP) to launch Halo with the still-in-development Xbox. Microsoft always owned the rights when they bought Bungie, even after Bungie separated from Microsoft. Money was never the issue, creative freedom was (at least that's what Bungie said). Where did you get such incorrect information?
@VibratingButtChomper, These are all lies. Like, everything you said. On the other hand, Massive Liar is correct, amid the name.
@Massive Liar, You're exactly correct. On top of that, an RTS like Myth is what Bungie originally wanted to create when Halo was conceived, but due to various reasons it was reimagined as a first person shooter. Halo Wars was, in fact, the long awaited Halo RTS that they had wanted to make all those years ago finally coming to fruition.
Plus, Cyan, the company who made Myst, is on the freaking picture, and so it's Broderbund, who published it (and also made the old Carmen Sandiego games). I mean cmon, a goddamn Google and Wikipedia check would've told this guy that information. Instead he's just making shjt up.
@YouJustLostTheGame, Also, Bungie didn't sell the rights to 343 because there was nothing to sell. Microsoft already owned Halo, and when they amicably parted ways with Bungie Microsoft formed 343, a subsidiary company, to take over the series. By the time Reach was released it was already WELL known that it would be Bungie's last Halo, as well as being a prequel instead of a sequel. If that were really the case you would've heard about a massive breach of contract lawsuit being brought against Bungie....which never happened.
@Massive Liar, damn. You're really showing everyone that a name isn't everything ;)
@Massive Liar, I don't know who to believe anymore.
@VibratingButtChomper, Bungie didn't make Myst, but okay.
@Massive Liar, woo, thank heaven I thought I was going to have to type all that out.
@VibratingButtChomper, how the hell does this comment have 20 downvotes?!? That's great information. Gave a measly upvote to offset. But damn!
@VibratingButtChomper, I'm just sitting here sipping my drink, soaking up the laughs. So much hate and so much love.
@Massive Liar, downvoted for the last part. On one bungie day, they actually bought the rights to halo, which they kept for several years, during which they made Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. They then sold the rights to the Halo franchise to Microsoft when they parted from them to go on to join blizzivision to make the 10 year Destiny IP. Microsoft then put 343i in charge of halo, and the Forerunner arc they are currently working on.
@SchroedingerPussPuss, It has 24 downvotes because every piece of information in his post was wrong. Read the whole thread.
@PB4UGAMER, That's nut actually right either. Google "When did Bungie sell Halo" and the first link that pops up is to the Bungie forums, and one of the guys there got it right:
"Bungie hasn't owned the Halo rights since like 2000 when Microsoft bought them. It's Microsoft's IP after that purchase even when they let Bungie become their own company again. 343i is an in house Microsoft development team that's tasked with continuing to put out Halo games."
Bungie hasn't owned the rights to Halo since...well, EVER really, so I'm not exactly sure where you're getting the info that they bought the rights back just to make ODST and Reach and then sold the rights BACK to Microsoft. No company would ever in their right mind sell such a successful IP to another company, including the IP's original creator. That just makes no sense whatsoever.
Oh my GOD I have this game!! I have no idea how it came into my possession but I tried it and it was exactly like this.
My mom played this when i was really little and she loved it. I bought it for her as a Christmas present but it doesn't work with the Windows 7. Downloaded it off of Steam, but it's almost impossible to do some of the tasks because the update they did made it pitch black inside buildings. Made it to and back from the first island, but now im stuck trying to figure out how to work the pressure gauges and junk. Even used a walkthrough guide and i can't get past it
Ahhhhhaaa awww now I feel old thanks guys
Move the lever and then go look around and see what has changed. Take notes too! I love this game
I put all the pages in the red book and got murdered.
Does everyone know that realmyst is a thing that exists?
@copdeeznutz, there's actually and updated version of realmyst with better graphics. It's called RealMyst Masterpiece Edition
