One of those federal grants Trump is trying to end funding for...
@junkstarbuilds, I think we can all agree this grant needs to go.
@junkstarbuilds, ...You're fired.
@WhoseLineIsItAnyway, I really hope that's how he cuts funding from things.
@junkstarbuilds, I hope if this is true there's a bunch of people against trump advocating for the squishing roach program to stay
@junkstarbuilds, the unsquishable roaches will be weaponized and dropped into the salads of terrorist's families
@junkstarbuilds, it's for robotics research. They're trying to mimic the roach's ability to squeeze through super tiny cracks so they can build tiny robots to crawl through rubble in disaster relief scenarios. Like to find people trapped under trapped buildings.
@Cyb3r, Yup it's actually very useful research. Many read the headline and think we are trying to make invincible roaches.
@JJD2016, there is I'm sure. Google it.
@Torq Rinch, Doesn't that idiot trump understand we NEED the squishy roach program
@Cyb3r, I can see that working. If I was trapped under a pile of rubble and I saw a roach crawling towards me I'd lose my shıt and jump up through that pile.
@Cyb3r, I feel sm smarter after reading that
@Bonersaurus, underrated comment
Some people just wanna watch the world burn
@chewbaca on squirrel, I'd burn the world too if it was infested with un-squishable roaches.
@chewbaca on squirrel, but the cockroaches wouldnt die, even in the fire.
They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they never stopped to think if they should...
For world domination, obviously
How do you 'build' a roach?
@TheDoctorsTARDIS, using wood.
@TheDoctorsTARDIS, Gene editing technology called CRISPR.
They have literally created glow in the dark cats and frost resistant tomatoes using fish cells. It's cool but also creepy and raises a lot of ethical questions like in the movie Gattaca.
@lockke, selective breeding, also
@ManEatingBug, Right good point. The original way to make a wolf look like a pug.
So that we'll feel compelled to burn our homes down for spiders and roaches.
They're building nanorobots based on roaches to explore earthquake areas and collapsed buildings without disturbing the building itself and crushing those underneath
Just dont send them to mars
*holds up sign*
"I AM NOT A ROACH!"
I can think of several applications for this. Potential mining vehicles that won't be crushed in a cave in. Creating safer vehicles in general really. Potential uses in architectural design, and even in something like construction gear, such as hard hats and jackets. The applications of the knowledge they get out of it could be worth it. Especially if it's a relatively cheap program. If it saves lives, I think that even experiments that sound stupid are worth it.
