@Duncan5769, you got me there
You're the reason condoms were made.
Scientific facts are just a cultural blah blah
I always thought it was weird how we can use techniques and formulas and equations that we made up to tell us how old something is. I would love for someone to explain it to me so I actually know how it works, but that would probably take a lot of deep-diving into the subject
@BIessthefaII, actually pretty simple. We take an isotope of carbon (specifically carbon-14) which we can measure the half life of. Half life is a radioactive measurement of how long it takes for half of the molecules to leave the original structure. Then you look how much is gone and determine the approximate age compared to what it should be as a new structure.
@satan of the north, wow thanks Satan
@BIessthefaII, No problem! Now just remember to eat your fruits and vegetables, and sin at every chance!
@satan of the north, Carbon-14 dating can only go back about 10,000 years or so. For dating of older materials such as most rocks in the Earth's crust, you need to use Strontium-90 or certain isotopes of Uranium. Because of their half-lives, dating can be accurate in the millions of years range.
@bigmaclevel3, thank you for the clarification I didn't know that but it makes sense having to use different isotopes with longer half-lives for older dating
@satan of the north, No problem! Most people are only familiar with Carbon-14 dating since it used a lot for dating human/archeological remains.
@satan of the north, every chance is a lot of work. How about just often instead??
Evolutionary psychology is not solid science. Don’t trust Nat Geo.
*deeply inhales* BOI
Is that a christain thing cause i thought the christain viewpoint was that it was 6 thousand years old.
That's a religious topic as well folks.
