ain't nobody gonna have any relations with my sister except ME!
What I don't get is why people who openly wave a Confederate flag are also the ones going "this our country, if you don't like it leave" when they were the ones who tried to leave...
@HollywoodxGhost, and then got bullied back in despite the fact that the union had no rights over any of the land or our people. yeah we remember
Think of it this way.
You just lost your fight to become your own country and now others are coming to exactly turn the country you lost to, and are now a part of, into a whole new different country.
At least from their perspective.
@Guy Fawkes, thats a fun way to frame it so that you dont have to talk about how america said you werent allowed to own people
@Hoban Washburne, thats funny because slavery is still real and is still happening in the world and you dont see america running in and taking over their land and people.
Dont make a faux moral argument for a non moral issue.
The point i made was the exact point i intended to make. That being that it isnt out fault that we "tried" to leave. We wouldve just left and left it at that. We didnt march up there and demand they let us in, they marched down here and told us we couldnt leave.
And "If you dont love it leave it" is probably one of the single worst and most damaging pieces of propoganda that was distrubuted by any government
@Guy Fawkes, dont argue with that guy, hes just a ignorant arrogant prick with shjtty opinions. Ignore him and maybe hell go away.
@ThePandaPool , yeah ive said my piece anyhow. How have you been panda?
@Guy Fawkes, good. Life is rough, but good. If I make it to next year without a stroke I'll consider it a win.
@ThePandaPool , thats good to hear, and i hope your health continues to hold out
@HollywoodxGhost, As someone who lives in the south, people generally fly it as a southern symbol, rather than what the Confederacy stood for. Of course there are always exceptions, but most would not want to secede in any capacity.
@AndorraBall, wasn’t that not actually the official flag of the confederacy too? I seem to remember it being called a “naval jack” or something along those lines.
@Guy Fawkes, "faux moral argument" like the one you made about America being actually altruistic and attempted to state that America should actively invade another country in order to meddle in their affairs and end their practice of slavery. While that would be a good moral argument and I personally would applaud that kind of desire to improve the world, that is a terrible precedent to set and would only serve to get us into another war that we didn't need with yet another country. All that would do is get yet another country trying to fly planes into our buildings.
That would also be a certain demise to a young nation such as post-civil war America. It is not our job to police the world and we should not police by force. It is the President's job to maintain the nation as a whole nation. Lincoln succeeded at that in a very bloody war.
And it isn't just the North's fault. Nor is it the South's. It takes two and the North wasn't coming to take the homes or even just the property but...
@mas2de, to keep the nation as a nation and secondarily (scholarly argument can be made here either way) to outlaw owning humans outright.
@mas2de, hey man i appreciate the thought but i think youve misunderstood a few of my key points and im too far beyond it to care enough to correct them at this point.
This is out of simple lazyness and i dont mean to disrespect your counter so i appologize if i have, but im sure there will be another chance for us to talk/debate at some point.
@mas2de, which was exactly what i said was wrong. By what right did they hold the nation together? Thats like if you join a fvcking chess club and then decide to leave so they jump you and drag you back into the game.
And im not the one who framed america as altruistic. Mr washburne up there is the one who insisted that america only did what it did because "america said we cant own people". I pointed out the fact that if that was indeed why they invaded a foreign people and land, then why did they not continue on this righteous path?
@HollywoodxGhost, hey I guess they aren't hypocrites about it though
@HollywoodxGhost, that moment when a curious thought that could've been worded better sparks a debate and I'm sitting here going "I need to stop asking questions..."
@HollywoodxGhost, I think it was a very fair question. Ive always hated the kind of attitude you drew attention to in the first place because it implys something is beyond improvement.
I always viewed as a participation trophy; "yay, we almost had our own country without any sustainability!!"
"Why are you booing me? I am right"
Sucks that we live in a time where you can be fired for being funny.
@ThePandaPool , look I even like the flag and i think thats funny and fairly accurate to boot
@ThePandaPool , the alternative was allowing people to be as crude, crass and cruel at work as they wanted to be and no one would say anything. Remember that guy? The guy who goes too far at work? Don't be that guy.
Some married siblings got butt hurt
@megamanx181x, it is Georgia after all
That teacher deserves an award.
Why are you booing me? I'm right!
He's a goddamn hero.
Why are you booing me? I’m right.
