Any vets/active members who can confirm?
@Captain Anderson, I'm attempting to enlist. I can definitely confirm the last one. These doctors have their heads so far up their asses it's amazing.
@Dan S Krieger, join the club... Im trying to go back and since i need a medical waiver ive got to go through docs to get it but since we need to emply civilian contracted doctirs who are incompetent its been terrible. Its gotten to the point ive started questioning if they got thier degrees and certification out of a box of puffins.
@AllThanks, I sat for 3 hours at MEPS staring at a wall. The doctor put my record down and forgot to tell the nurse to do anything with it.
@Dan S Krieger, heh ive been waiting 9 months for then to get off their a$$ and give me my waiver. And they still havent done it
@Captain Anderson, this is a pretty well documented thing, but I believe it's actually a result of our better organization. The American military focuses a lot on chain of command, with lower ranking personnel assuming command in the event that higher-ups are killed.
Historically it didn't work this way. If your general was killed in the field then you were kinda fvcked, and would fight aimlessly until you could retreat. Even as recent as WW2 the germans famously failed to deploy tank divisions on time to counteract the D-Day invasion because German command was afraid of waking Hitler up early to ask his permission.
In the American military most things are on a strict "need-to-know" basis, but everyone at least knows all the details of the mission they need to see through. As a result if your immediate CO is killed then congratulations you are all promoted for the day, and can continue on in coherent units until your objective is completed anyway. Then you make new objectives...
@Captain Anderson, 10 years in. Yes and no. It all depends on the timing and who you are with. That’s the best way to say it lol
@TheHaxAreReal, I feel like aspects of this apply to other parts of American society and why we're generally on top. For example, I work in oil well completions. In Russia, the ministry of natural resources or whatever it's called plans how the wells will be drilled and completed. So if the first one turns up dry, they still have to drill the rest even though the guys on the ground know it's pointless. But in America, there's engineers on every well and they have the freedom and authority to make changes. So if something doesn't work well, they can modify the procedure to improve it on the fly, and then adapt that to the remainder of wells in that area. And I think this all extends to other industries as well.
@Captain Anderson, well in Iraq as a sergeant and staff sergeant we lead the patrols. I saw a first lieutenant go down and the whole platoon operation continued without missing a beat.
@Captain Anderson, every day is a mystery in the Navy
@Captain Anderson, absolutely. As an example I’ve never seen a fire fought without someone in their underwear. And fires happen aboard ship more often than we should be ok with.
@MyMormonFriend, that's called opsec newbie
@CellSword, mmm okay
@Tsaltydog, I fvcking love this country
@chickee fella, Damn, that's really badass

The best swordsman in the world doesn't need to fear the second best swordsman in the world; no, the person for him to be afraid of is some ignorant antagonist who has never had a sword in his hand before; he doesn't do the thing he ought to do, and so the expert isn't prepared for him” Mark Twain
It's kind of like poker too... had a movie who had no clue what she was doing. She was playing hands she should have folded, but end up getting lucky on the river with like a 3 and 9 off suited... no way to form a plan against them when they don't even have a plan...
@phalcon , I watched this happen at a Super Bowl party a few years back. About 30 people with a $20 buy-in with rebuys. This woman was in the final table, with the short stack, and her kids started acting up elsewhere in the party. She goes all in on a terrible hand so she can be done with the game and ends up winning. Does it a few more times and ends finishing in 3rd place winning a couple hundred dollars.
