He's an idiot. he understands physics, that is it.
Everything in the world right now, believe it or not, either is a potato or is not a potato
@Mendicant Bias, *I, a mixed race half-potato half-not a potato shed a tear from one of my many eyes*
@Mendicant Bias, but at what point, when you eat a potato, does it become a not-potato. And instead become you? Does there exist some non-binary potato/non-potato quantum state in between?
@jouze, at what point does a deer become not a deer? When you take its life away and harvest its delicious meats, therefor a potato is a potato until you tear it from the ground and mold it into something else
@Mendicant Bias, and so what about during the pulling process, is it no longer a potato once it has shed all it's earthly bounds? And how is just a regular potato you'd have in your kitchen then not a potato? Seems an arbitrary measure of potato-ality
@jouze, A deer becomes venison when you kill it and harvest it, potatoes only have one name for their living state and harvested state, it is always a potato but a harvested potato is not quite a living potato
@Mendicant Bias, not true actually potatoes you have pulled out of the ground still live and can grow actually (buds) and if you out it back in the ground many will grow again, I don't think an animal is a proper comparison to a vegetable especially as one as hardy as a potato
@jouze, I'm not sure about all that, but my dad always taught me that a potato in the anal cavity was worth more then 2 in the bush
@Mendicant Bias, what if I cut a potato in half? Would it be both a potato and not a potato?
@Mendicant Bias, absurd! Obscene! What is this vile blasphemy?! Cease it now, heretic!
@Mendicant Bias, I like waiting for discord to load too
@Mendicant Bias, false. If you put a potato in a sealed box, with no indication of what goes on inside, eventually it will disintegrate into something else. Since we don't know exactly when, there is a window of time where the potato is both a potato and not a potato. Schrodinger's potato theorem.
@Mendicant Bias, I think he's saying that it's because of different beliefs as in spiritual but either way is false and also a poor choice of wording.
@Mendicant Bias, Is a potato chip a potato or not a potato? I must know!
@Mendicant Bias, not true. A plastic display potato is both a potato and not a potato.
So let's create a robust system in which people must study for years to be knowledgeable as well as having numerous peer reviews and checks on their work so that we can be sure that their info is accurate. And then once we've done that let's ignore the conclusion reached by 95% of them and keep doing what we've always been doing.
@A Flying Panda, sounds like a plan
@A Flying Panda, it's cause every scientific debate has the appearance of being 50/50, which makes it seem more plausible to pick your own side and ignore the near-consensus.
Some network airs Bill Nye vs. someone and viewers take sides, when they really should be airing Bill Nye, Tyson, and 93 other scientists who aren't entertaining enough to be on TV vs. 5 scientists who disagree.
And then after that, if you're still holding out, let's just call them all corrupt and say they were bribed.
@Blue Shirted Guy, I'd watch a show where scientific debate is moderated by giving each side a number of scientists proportionate to the percentage of scientists in the field that agree with them. Would help the normies to understand the issue better, and watching 5 guys try to out-debate a team of 95 would show how hopeless their point of view is. Or the same thing as a cage fight, that'd be fun too.
@YUNoJump, Nerd fight club?
@YUNoJump, now idk how valid this point is but i saw one explaination for 95% of scientists... because in order to get funding (which is needed) they have to agree that global warming/ w/e is happening. So basically if you want money you will agree with us or find your own financial source.
@butthole bread, if you funded scientists to prove global warming was not happening and is in fact just a "cycle" you could potentially get 95% to say GW is fake.
People will say whatever is necessary in order to pay the bills.
@butthole bread, the thing is a lot of funding comes from places like the UN which wouldn't accept falsified answers. Environmental studies and such have always been on the losing side financially, oil and coal are massive industries (frequently known as being filthy rich) that have a lot of financial muscle. In general governments don't like working towards fighting climate change because it basically means they have to reshuffle a lot of jobs and industry, so if there was a reasonable way to get out of climate change evidence they'd do it more. The current strategy is to just talk about strengthening coal etc, and saying that we can't afford to change core industries to fight climate change.
Response it stupid, the implication is if we focus on science, conflict will arise much less.
Captain Obvious go home
@eleven, you leave my bro alone!!
Why y'all gotta hate on Neil Degrasse Tyson?
You don't say!!!!!!
It's kind of a beautiful thing in the abstract. Everyone is so passionate they are willing to die for their belief. maybe that's not such a bad way to live life.
Making Sagan proud.
Wars can also be about resources and land. Just we havnt had many and the ones we did arnt interesting
@mrmoe, let us never forget the Banana Wars
@Aaron Leibowitz, *vietnam flash backs but guns replaced with bananas*
@mrmoe, in all seriousness, the banana wars were a real thing.
@Aaron Leibowitz, yea i know it happened in the 40s to 50s and it was between a government and a food company backed by the us military
@Aaron Leibowitz, Yeah those were fvcked up. I had to learn about them in college Spanish, third semester. Why isn't that High School stuff, at least in Southern California?
@mrmoe, I meeeeeaaaaaannnnn a big part of current wars are land and people wanting their "god given land". And a big reason we're not setting NK on fire is because they have a large source of precious metals and mineral deposits that China uses and would be pissed at us for. On second thought, yeah that's not too interesting lol
