Once your life has absolutely no meaning, then you care
@Mendicant Bias, even then it's hard to understand
@Mendicant Bias, a moment of silence for the people who find this meaningful.
Why is it a female crosswalk because it has a dress on? misogynist.
@Guy Fawkes, I was thinking the same thing? Kind of redundant.
Look, I consider myself a feminist, but in this fűcked up world of guys being girls and girls being guys, who the fùck cares anymore. Isn't that the point? That it doesn't matter because we are all equal?
@Bender B, You know anytime someone calls attention to the breaking of gender roles, it ultimately undermines the concept of gender equality by implying there is an exception and not the status quo. - Knuckles The Echidna
@Bender B, well and who even the f*ck says the crossing figure is a guy? It's a stick figure. But making a figure that's specifically female and wearing a dress makes it clear that one is male and one is female rather than just letting one character stand for everyone.
@Bender B, girls who are boys who like boys to be girls who do boys like they're girls who do girls like they're boys, always should be someone, you rea-lly looooove 🎶
@Bender B, that's why I'm an egalitarian, so long as I hate everyone equally we're all good.
@Bender B, honestly, if you feel like you are being oppressed as a woman, why not just identify as a straight white man? Solves all of your problems.
I care more about the tax dollars it took to change all of these!
Isn't this more sexist? The other one is gender neutral. It isn't like the walk lights have genitals. They are literally an outline of a human body. The dress just seems more sexist - not that I have an issue with it. It just seems dumb.
"What, no male crosswalk sign? Guess I'll stand here till I die then..."
Did they just assume that signs' gender? Or did they just assign the sign a gender?
So woman go but men must stop? I've seen these and the don't walk sign is still a bloke.
@Sambob, "how long have you been here"
"Well I've waited about 3 weeks for the sign to say I'm allowed to cross but it keeps telling me to stay here"
Who is to say that women have to were skirts to be female? Couldn't all the signs be for women wearing trousers meaning that actually Australia is being sexist.
I'm just causing problems.
@Frighthound, we must go deeper and cause more chaos
Why not lights with attack helicopters, huh? Why they gotta be so hypocritical and oppress us helicopters?
When I draw stick figures, I draw them the same regardless of gender. Why do I care if that one is wearing a superhero cape?
You are pushing gender roles of women wearing skirts instead of pants, the original walking symbol could be a women in jeans for all we know...
I think this will cause confusion. We men won't know it's ok to cross. With male crosswalk signs the women know its ok to cross after the men start crossing.
i don't care, but some 4 year old little girl might get excited when she sees it and regardless how you feel about this (i'm fully indifferent), that's a nice little thought.
To recap those revisions: women are still worth 10 points more than men in all age brackets, but teenagers now rack up 40 points, and toddlers under 12 now rate a big 70 points. The big score: anyone, any sex, over 75 years old has been upped to 100 points
-Death Race 2000
How much money did they waste modifying the lights for this?
@megamanx181x, a few grand, pretty irrelevant amount for a large city government.
I am female? And still rarely wear dresses? I never assumed the crosswalk symbol even had a gender?
Damnit, now I can't use those crosswalks.
can we pls get an official "both gender figure" ?
geez, for me, the "guy" on traffic lights is simply representing a person .. ANY person
And all those crosswalks lead to laudromats and stores filled with cleaners and cookware.
Haha I would be complaining that the female crosswalk symbols are wearing dresses, they want to pretend that the gender of a crosswalk symbol matter? Then I'll call them out on being sexist by doing it
That looks like green corn-on-the-cob.
Yeah it cost hundreds of thousands of Pacific pesos (Australian dollars) to do so
