White students: So can white students get their own graduation?
Administration: stop being racist, and you're expelled. Racist.
@Oujosh29, dumb liberal identity logic in a fücken nutshell
@Dexios S Divine, the neoprogressive social justice method as described by Prof. Jordan Peterson to the letter
After all those ass-whoopings their ancestors received, black people in the US now undo so much of the progress that was made. White supremacists don't even need to try
@Kangaroo Jacked, we noticed from observing black communities that all you need to do is give them a place, guns and a bit of time and they will sort themselves out.
@Kangaroo Jacked, On a scale of 1 to Antebellum Plantation Owner, how bad is it that my first thought was "Wait, how many football scholarships do they give away?"
Humans are so funny.. You think you are different. You complain and want to be treated the same but you also want to be different and stand out. Then everything some how is racist.
Plot twist, no black students graduated... In gonna hide now
@CrazyRightWinger, "Event cancelled due to low turnout"
love for a white guy to sue and win for discrimination.
This has to be fake. Please for the love of Gwyn, be fake
@Darkmoon Knight, sort of. There will be a black event but it's not replacing graduation
Sorta misleading. The event isn't supposed to replace the main graduation, it's to commemorate the achievements of black Harvard students/alum since they're such a tiny minority
@Big Hat Brogan, yeah separate but equal is fine.
*highlights 14th Amendment*
This is not in lieu of the normal graduation. It's an add in for black students to come together and celebrate in their own kind of ceremony. And while it's called "black graduation", all races are welcome. (For those who care to know more than the splashy headline)
@iOS10, this is still racist on in and of itself. Even if all races are invited, do Asians get their own graduation to celebrate how they want? Mexicans, middle eastern students?
@iOS10, I guarantee you if they had an "all white" graduation party with "all races welcome" there would be a damn riot
@fettman1138, The Asians don't get their own graduation because they're all 15 years old so it'd be a really boring with no alcohol.
Its not racist if I'm saying that they're all really smart, is it?
@Nellybert , Nah that's a positive stereotype, we need more than them.
@iOS10, your explanation doesn't make it any less hypocritical or racist.
@Oujosh29, never said it did. Was just giving more context.
@fettman1138, hispanics actually do have one as well.
@roboscratcher, lets have one and see!
@roboscratcher, Wubba Lubba Dub Dub!!
@Blasphemy is Fun, because of history? Because of people I've never met?
Yeah, being guilty for other people's choices sounds great XD
@fettman1138, Consider this: "positive stereotypes" put pressure on those who dont meet the stereotype and devalue those who do.
@Nicholas12194, Still I would rather harbor and project those positive stereotypes then negative ones. Some people will be offended by anything, you can't please them all. However you can choose to have a positive perspective on things.
Plus that argument can easily be flipped by saying that "negative sterotypes" aren't really negative because it doesn't really represent everyone (such as bad Asian drivers) and gives an excuse to continue on with them.
@Gubbins, yeah thats whats freaking wrong with the world today. "Everyone is equal, but this race gets benefits due to something you never did yourself." Well what about my race? "Thats racist of you to think that your race deserves anything more than what you have because we are all equal." -Dumbass Logic
@Blasphemy is Fun, Because white people invented racism towards black people two hundred years ago and that's the only kind of prejudice to have ever existed since the beginning of time?
@HiroAntagonist, yeah I mean it's not like the word "slave" originated due to a white population with a similar name that were taken as slaves
Here's why there won't be a "white only" graduation ceremony, there's no culture from being white. White people's culture comes from their ethnicity so they'd celebrate Scottish, Australian, Norwegian, French, European cultures. Black Americans have had to create a whole new culture because of their skin color. They can't celebrate "African culture" because their history leading to their African ancestry is lost and/or erased. So excuse them for wanting to celebrate the triumphs of their culture. 🙄
@Duke Of SamJax, Their own people caught them and sold them to Americans. You do realize that right? That didnt make if right for Americans to buy them by no means, however a lot of them had better lives (not all) coming to America than they wouod being slaves or citizens in Africa. Also like plenty of people have said in this post and many before. Dont push equality but then put different races on a pedastal for something that happened years ago for something this generation had nothing to do with.
@Duke Of SamJax, I'm white, wanna know what I celebrate? BEING AMERICAN. Guess what heritage black people can celebrate: BEING AMERICAN.
@AnimusJ, THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE CELEBRATING! Being a BLACK AMERICAN! Unfortunately, American culture isn't the same for everyone! Ask the Japanese, ask the Chinese, ask the Arabs, Ask the IRISH! We have a right to celebrate the accomplishments of our people!
@tmo0792, How we got here has nothing to do with how we were treated once we arrived. We were sold like cattle and treated even worse. A culture had to be created because we weren't allowed by the other Americans to join in! We had to make our own music, our own education systems, our own fashions because of forced segregation. So tell why that it's wrong to celebrate the people who came from and were molded by that history as they achieve something many people in their lives don't? It's not our fault that because of our color we were put in a position that lead us to today. It was the white Americans and white immigrants that MADE us do what we had to do. This generation may not have made us slaves or segregated us, but it's the generation that's keeping America from being the true melting pot it claims to be. It's like pulling teeth trying to get America to shake its racist ways.
@Duke Of SamJax, I demand a white graduations celebrating the feats of white society in history, most notable making all of the modern world possible. Clearly, I'm allowed to be proud of my race!!
@Can yew knot, Tell what pride do you derive from your skin color? What trials and tribulations did you have to conquer to get through because of the white skin on your body? There's nothing to proud of for having white skin in America. White people do not systematically suffer because they're white, their color does not prevent them from opportunity, their color does not make them a "potential threat" on the street. If you want a ceremony for being a proud American, go ahead and do that, but that is not exclusive to white people. Also by the way, America had centuries of celebrating white folk, why is it a problem to shine the light elsewhere?
@Duke Of SamJax, yeah you don't get it. I'm not celebrating that my ancestry came from Europe. I don't Drink tea, don't spell words in weird ways and I definitely have good dental hygiene.
If you're celebrating America differently - that's not America. Why does it matter what color an American is unless you're racist? I don't celebrate the European part of my ancestry because it has nothing to do with me being American, my parents grandparents, great grandparents - all being American.
There's no such thing as African American, Chinese American, Scottish American... we're just Americans and the moment you stop being racist you might understand that.
@AnimusJ, It's not celebrating America differently, its celebrating a different American culture. The history we Americans had created this culture, think of it as a "subculture" if you will. Because of the circumstances regarding the birth of this culture that would make it exclusive to Black people, but that is not by our own fault. This celebration is not a "we're better than you" and it's not an "anti-white" occasion, it's just a celebration that a majority of white people cannot wholly partake in because it's not their culture, they cannot completely understand the shared experience of being Black in America. Anyway, I'm alone in this thread and I'm not trying to change minds but just to inform. You have a great day.
@Duke Of SamJax, "Its not celebrating differently it's celebrating a different American Culture"
Congratulations - you played yourself.
@Duke Of SamJax, I've had strangers call me a racist white bjtch for bumping me in the hallway. Also I grew up on the poorer side of the world, so I was pretty much ignored, used, or bullied. People always look for differences that they can use to push others down. @Can yew knot I believe was trying to illustrate the irony of people of all different races being able to say "I'm proud to be (blank)" but the instant a white person does it they're racist
@Duke Of SamJax,
Being a proud American is not exclusive to white people. You said it yourself. Being in this country means you can be proud that it has made it this far. It hasn't had the smoothest ride, but it's made it. Everyone can be a proud American. When slavery was ended, that was a victory for America. When the civil rights movement made massive strides to end segregation, that was a victory for America. Everyone is entitled to be proud of the successes of our nation. It doesn't matter the color of our skin, everyone in this country is an American. Saying that people are somehow more certified to be proud because of their skin color is wrong, and to give special segregated graduations or other events for people of that skin color is racist. I'm a little tired from finals, so my thoughts are somewhat disorganized, sorry about that. In the end we are all human beings, skin color doesn't change that. Have a nice night.
@Duke Of SamJax, you are a racist prick
@Duke Of SamJax, That same thing happened to the Irish and Scottish and Dutch and Germans, though. They had their own parts of cities they had to live in, their own ways they were mistreated, ways they were mistreated and underpaid, and exploited for labor. They were the first abused indentured servants forced to come to the Colonies or face lifetime imprisonment. If they even survived the trip, they were worked nearly to death every day of their contracts.
Let's not forget the Natives, too, who were made slaves well before Africans were traded, and who were exploited well after blacks were freed. It was not a special problem unique to one race. Claiming otherwise is appropriation of the highest order.
@D4rkhum0r , anyone is free to be proud of their heritage, but there's a difference between screaming "irish pride" versus "white power"
@sahilimanjaro, let me guess, there's a difference between "black power" and "white power"?
@RustyFapwagon, well yea, but you can blame the Klan for that
@sahilimanjaro, nope. The klan hardly has presence anywhere anymore. You know what does have presence? The literal domestic terror organization BLM (many of their members have also supported ISIS/had ties with ISIS).
It's all ok or none of it's ok.
@Duke Of SamJax, how can you say that white folk don't experience hardship as a result of their skin color? Are you to presume the experiences of an entire ethnicity based on a perceived stereotype shaped by an interested and biased group? Cuz that sounds slightly racist. There is no equality, and speaking in reality, there never will be.
@Duke Of SamJax, you do realize way more white people are killed by cops every year right? Apparently you've never looked for schalorships, I looked for hours and I didn't apply for any that I found solely because I'm a straight white males, I've been poor ever since I dad became disabled so I don't have the whole "white privilege" thing, if scholarships are supposed to make things fair, then how come I don't apply for any of my race and sexuality? Yet you don't see me burning down cities and rioting because something is unfair. It's racist to say a white person can't be proud to be white, that doesn't mean that they hate every other race and are better. If you don't realize how actually racist you are being then there is no helping you
When you think you're going to right way but somewhere on the way you were turned around.
